A look at the Flyers outstanding month of November

The Flyers end an amazing month of November with a 4 game win streak, and move into 3rd place in the Metro Division, 1 point behind the Islanders. The Flyers had a great month, going 10-2-4. This was not an easy month of hockey for the Flyers, as they were tested with back to back nights, different start times, and 4 games in the last 5 and a half days of the month. 

Carter Hart and Brian Elliot were spectacular for the Flyers, both having stellar numbers and making some great saves along the way. The Flyers are 5-2-3 in their last 10, and are at a great pace compared to last season. In the months of October and November 2018, the Flyers had 10 wins, in 2017, they had 8. This year, they have 15, and are 5th in the Eastern Conference, and have the most points in the month of November in the NHL, with 24. 

The Flyers Offense has really started to pick up as well, Jake Voracek has played very well with Sean Couturier and Oskar Lindblom, along with the line of Kevin Hayes, Joel Farabee, and Scott Laughton. Claude Giroux, Morgan Frost, and Travis Konecny played very well, having a lot of scoring chances and 9 points combined against Carolina on the 21st, where the Flyers won 5-3. 

Sean Couturier and Ivan Provorov are my two picks for best players of November for the Flyers, having some key games and playing solid throughout the whole month. I had an opportunity to talk with Sam Carchidi and Wayne Fish. I asked Sam who he thought was the best player of November, he responded ”Couturier.” Wayne brought up a good point about Coots, saying “Couturier is a guy where if someone else is in a slump, he can break them out of it and make them play to their full potential”.

I agree 100% that Couturier made Voracek turn it around and start to produce. Starting against Vancouver, where that line had both goals and were flying all night. Provorov and Matt Niskanen were solid defensively all month, and have been the Flyers best pair all year so far. The Flyers have a few tough games coming up, Toronto, Arizona, and Ottawa at home, then they will go on the road for 3 games against Colorado, Minnesota, and Winnipeg. Hopefully they’ll be able to keep the same momentum going in December.
