Friday, Dec. 27, the Flyers practiced in Vorhees before flying off to California for a 6 game road trip to start the new year. Alain Vigneault was very vocal, and had lots of different drills with a fast pace to each one. The Flyers worked on the power-play with different units, one being Frost, Niskanen, Ghost, Voracek, and JVR. The other unit consisted of Provorov, Konecny, Giroux, Coots, and JVR.
The team had better breakouts and crisp passing in the neutral zone, and good shots on net with puck recovery from both units at today’s practice. There was a very effective drill that started with a 2 on 1 down low, then a point shot with traffic in front, ending with a 2 on 1 starting in the neutral zone. I recently made a YouTube video talking about the Flyers PP struggles against Ottawa and New York, and the better PP against Anaheim and Buffalo.
Scott Laughton was in a regular jersey today, and was on the 3rd line with Frost and Voracek. Laughton looked like his old self coming off a groin injury, and he might play vs San Jose. Michael Raffl was on the ice today in a ”non-contact” jersey, and should be back in the lineup later in the road trip.
I made a 2 part video of this practice, you can check it out on my YouTube channel – FlyersFanMania93.
