Going into every year, we see players and come from lower-level schools, who become stars in the NFL. Might the next one be Desmond Sturdivant?
Desmond is a 6’2, 304-pound defensive tackle from Hampton University. He has great first-step quickness with a very polished swim move. He is excellent vs the run. In the Big South, there is two teams above the rest: Kennesaw State and Monmouth. When facing those two, Desmond had a collective 8 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and a forced fumble. While those numbers might not look impressive, in reviewing film, you can tell he closes gaps, forcing running backs to change direction. In his Senior year at Hampton, his stats were 40 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 3 force fumbles, 4 QB hits, and a pass deflection.
With Timmy Jernigan coming off a broken foot and being an unrestricted free agent. Malik Jackson who unfortunately also missed last season with a Lisfranc injury. The Eagles might look into bringing in a younger defensive tackle that can be groomed into being the partner for the All Pro Fletcher Cox. The Eagles should prepare to get younger. Desmond would be as high as a 7th round pick to a udfa. My pro comparison for him is a less athletic Fletcher Cox.
