AJ Terrell: A future Eagles lockdown corner?

Entering the offseason one of the Eagles biggest needs was Cornerback. They upgraded the position by trading for star Darius Slay and letting Ronald Darby walk in Free Agency. But after recently acquired Darius Slay, there isn’t much talent in that position. Plus nowadays most teams play with 5 Defensive Backs at the same time.

The draft could be a great source to improve that position. The Eagles won’t take a CB in the first round most likely, but they could take one in the 2nd round. The top talents like Jeff Okudah, Jeff Gladney and Kristian Fulton will not be available, but former Clemson star AJ Terrell could be.

AJ Terrell is a very good man coverage corner, and he can play in zone too. He’s very physical and he’s great in press coverage, which fits perfectly in the Eagles scheme considering they have to play Amari Cooper twice a year. He has good frame and he has very good ball skills. He’s my CB5 behind Jeff Okudah, Jeff Gladney, Kristian Fulton and Damon Arnette.

Terrell finished the season with 34 total tackles, 2 interceptions and 3 pass deflections. He finished his 3 year career at Clemson with 102 total tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 11 pass deflections and 6 interceptions including a pick six against Alabama in the 2018 National Championship. An adequate pro comparison for him would be Trayvon Mullen.

If AJ Terrell falls to the Eagles in the 2nd Round they shouldn’t hesitate in taking him. The Eagles have had secondary struggles for the past few years and now that Malcolm Jenkins left, there is no better time to improve this position. I believe that if the Eagles snag Terrell, they’ll have one of the best secondaries in the league and possibly a top 10 unit.
