The Phillies EXPLODE tonight against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park beating them 13-6. The Phils improve to .500 (9-9) and the Sox fell to 6-18 and now have a nine-game losing streak.
I wasn’t very impressed with the pitching tonight, and I’m usually not. Zach Eflin started the game and gave up four runs early in his 4 1/3 innings of work. The bullpen wasn’t lights out either. I don’t have a problem with the one run that Jose Alvarez gave up in the fifth, but yet again the Phillies had a hard time finishing this one off in the ninth. Deolis Guerra came in with a 13-5 lead in the ninth inning, and got the first two hitters before walking the next guy, and then giving up an RBI double off the monster to Mitch Moreland. The next batter then follows with a dribbler up the first base line, and somehow Rhys Hoskins and Guerra had some miscommunication and the batter reached safely. Cannot happen. You have got to lock the game down with a big lead. You just have to.
A notable player from today’s game would be Rhys Hoskins. Went 2-3 with a walk, single, and homer (his first of the season). I noticed that over the weekend Rhys was doing a better job of staying through the ball and driving it to right center instead of trying to pull outside pitches and rolling over for a weak groundball. Other than that, Phil Gosselin CONTINUES his red hot streak. He came in mid-game for a struggling Scott Kingery tonight, and went 2-2 with a double and a homer. Gosselin definitely should be starting over Scotty considering how hot he is. Look for him to be in the lineup tomorrow afternoon. Bryce Harper had the big knock tonight slamming a three-run shot in the Phils huge seven run sixth inning. The homer, which was Bryce’s fifth of the season opened the game wide open putting the Phils up 8-4.
