The Braves Rout the Phillies 11-2 as the Phils Put Out Pathetic Performance

The Atlanta Braves (15-11) blew out the Phillies (9-13) Friday night 11-2.

Well that was pathetic. The Phils lose their fourth straight after winning four straight just last weekend. Nothing went well for the Phillies tonight. Nola, who had been great this season could not seem to be able to command his fastball, or any of his pitches for that matter. All of the home runs were on the curveball which he was leaving up in the zone consistently. Nola gave up four runs through 2 2/3 innings of work, which was his shortest outing of his career. Then the bullpen was the bullpen, and the Braves exploded for six runs thanks to some bad pitches by Cole Irvin, and some bad defense by the Phils. Third baseman Alec Bohm made three errors in the inning, making the rookie clearly frustrated.

The Braves starter, Max Fried went five innings and gave up one run, but he wasn’t very good. He wasn’t locating his pitches well either, and he hung a LOT of breaking balls. But the biggest difference between the two teams today was that the Braves were hitting those hangers, and those hittable pitches, while the Phillies were not. Overall that was a very bad performance by the Phillies tonight and is inexcusable. This team tells fans every year, “We’re going to compete this year.” And yet every year they’re the same mediocre Phillies that they’ve always been. It’s just very disappointing to see a team that doesn’t appear to care about the outcome of the game at all.
