Phillies Fall to Mets 5-1, Five Game Streak Comes to an End

Well, the Phillies five game winning streak came to a close in New York tonight, as the Phils fall to the Mets 5-1. The Phillies fall to 19-16, and New York improves slightly to 18-22.

Rhys Hoskins opened up the scoring with a solo homer in the top of the first to put the Phils up 1-0. It was his seventh homer in 11 games. After that, the Phils offense wasn’t able to muster anything against fifth starter Seth Lugo and the Mets bullpen.

Spencer Howard just was not hitting his spots tonight. After a good start last Monday, today was definitely a regress from that. Howard gave up three runs over his four innings of work. He just threw way too many pitches, too many 3-2, 2-2, 3-1 counts. Ranger Suarez made his season debut tonight, going 1 2/3 and allowing two runs. Suarez did not look like his 2019 self. He as well as Howard was leaving the ball up in the zone and not hitting corners.

It was just an all-around sloppy game by the Phillies tonight. Hopefully they can bounce back tomorrow afternoon.
