The one thing everyone wants in a receiver is speed. What if I told you there’s a track-speed-type guy from Big Sky Country?
Meet the burner from the University of Montana in Samori Toure. He is 6’3’’ and 190 pounds of pure speed. The redshirt senior has been one of the most productive receivers in the FCS, with 155 receptions, 2,488 receiving yards, 20 touchdowns and 69.1 yards per game.
What would he bring to the Eagles? The first thing is his track-star speed of 4.52. You might look at that and say that isn’t fast, but when you watch him on film, he is much faster. He isn’t necessarily a straight-line-speed runner. Then you mix that with his great deep route running abilities. He has a great deal of ability to get open even if he doesn’t look free initially. He has pretty solid hands and would work well on the opposite side of JJ Arcega-Whiteside, who is looking for a breakout year for Philadelphia in 2020.
Samori can be as effective as Mecole Hardman was for Kansas City in 2019. Not an instant superstar, but a productive #2 or even #3 receiver who helps for success. He can possibly do some kick returns and had some experience with that in 2017, notching 21 returns for 379 yards and 18.0 yards per return.
Samori is a top receiver of the FCS (formerly Division I-AA) and had the chance to be drafted from the fifth round or can be a UDFA gem. In 2021, I expect him to be on an NFL roster; can it possibly be the Philadelphia Eagles roster? We will have to wait and see.
